Save or splurge; it’s a fashion decision that requires thought and planning. It’s easy to head to the mall or online and start looking for the best bargains, but how often do these impulse deals end up unworn and hanging in your closet, tags still attached?

I know, me too, that’s why we need a game plan, because to be a fashionista, it’s important to know where we can save some dough to be later spent on a time-tested wardrobe staple.

THE BEST TIMES TO SAVE INSTEAD OF SPLURGE
Seasonal Trends

Styles, colors, handbags and accessories change like fall leaves, which provides us with endless new ways to tap into our inner fashionista. Some trends are strong and last many seasons; bell bottom jeans fall into this category, popular in the 80’s and still going strong today after a huge resurgence years ago.

Yet there are many other “hot” fashion pieces that will be gone faster than you can say end of the season sale rack.

Which makes jumping into the trend pool with both feet a great time to SAVE. That way when that neon yellow bauble necklace you saw on your favorite fashion blogger and had to have, becomes so last year, darling, there will be no tears.

Handbags & Their Almost Twin Sisters

You know that drool-worthy handbag you’re seeing everywhere? Those glamorous celebrities you love were seen sporting it this week. Chances are, they spent more than our rent money on that bag, but that doesn’t mean we must.

Affordable stores like Target and H&M often create their own handbag version, with some slight variations. This is the time to SAVE and make folks wonder… has she been shopping with Reese and Jennifer again?

Cocktail Dresses

From holiday parties and weddings to grocery shopping (I kid) having a variety of chic cocktail dresses at your fingertips, is on every fashionista’s must have list. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to shell out the big bucks.

If you are a social butterfly, you’ll probably only get away with wearing that fab new dress twice, three times max, in your own hometown. which makes investing in expensive gowns risky business.

The solution is to look for a dress that makes you look like a million without the stocker shock. How? Check out stores like Nordstrom Rack and Saks off Fifth or outlet stores to find designer dresses at huge discounts.

Jewelry & Accessories

The 97 years young style icon, Iris Apfel, is known for bringing big, bold colors layered with over-sized bobbles and bling to life in her outfits. Iris provides us all with inspiration galore to step outside our style comfort zones.

Accessories and jewelry are an easy way to turn up the wow factor on any look or try a new color or trend.

Look for affordable pieces like sunglasses, scarves, statement necklaces and more at stores like Charming Charlie, Target and T.J. Maxx to save big.

Until next time, darlings, make your own fashion rules and save while doing so!

    Hi, Jonet
Great advice! Things we don’t always think about (those expensive dresses…?) Although I have created my own fancy “dresses” putting tops and skirts together, or lace tops under a sleeveless dress….Anyway, I think this post is well done!
