This Girl Is On Fire

To quote the iconic words of Alecia Keys, this girl is on fire, sound familiar? We might be standing in line at the grocery store, looking all cool with our veggies, Bengay and Ensure, when suddenly, we are overcome with a hot flash so intense, it seemingly starts in our toes and rises to our heads, every inch of our body feeling the heat.

Sheets ~ Stick (get it) with natural fibers like bamboo or cotton. Bamboo is actually the better choice because unlike cotton, bamboo fibers are naturally breathable and wicks moisture away from the skin. Bamboo fabric allows moisture to evaporate into the air more quickly, so when you sweat, you won’t stay wet.

As Claire points out, keeping a menopause journal can help you navigate your feelings about all the changes and symptoms of menopause.

Keeping track of how much exercise (or movement) we do each day can help. Also jotting down the foods and beverages we consume each day may lead to some startling discoveries, as what we eat can reduce hot flashes or turn up the heat.

Exercise may or may not be on your list of things that make your heart go pitter patter, but research shows daily exercise is an easy and healthy way to battle hot flashes.

Whether Yoga is your thing or not, getting a Yoga mat is good for a number of things that do a body good. I use mine for stretching, sit ups and Yoga class.

I don’t know about you, but I get night sweats and most nights, you’ll find me ripping the sheets off, then wrapping back up as the heat subsides and I am left with chills. Ya feel me?

Here’s a simple trick that really works. Take a refreezable ice pack and slip it under your pillow case. You’ll sleep cool as a cucumber, darlings.

    Hi Jonet!
I am preparing a blog post on how to get better sleep, and do address hot flashes! Remember the song by Springsteen, Im on Fire? I think he wrote that about menopausal women! ( or me!) I love the sheet suggestion and the cool packs. I will have to look into it. I just ordered some cool nights pjs from Soma that I want to check out. Love the new look to the site!

Hi Jess, thanks for your comment. Oh yes, hilarious, and I must agree, The Boss was certainly writing about hot flashes! You are so adorable. I love Soma jammies. Can’t wait to see what you ordered. I’m so happy you like the new look of the blog. So many decisions to make, changing colors, logos and so on.

      Xo, Jonet
