Your Night Guard is Hosting a Party and You Won’t Believe Who’s On the Guest List
For some of us, the term sawing logs has a deeper meaning than a great night’s sleep. Protecting our teeth from night grinding isn’t something to be taken lightly, as going a single night without this protective product can put our pearly whites in danger.
If you haven’t yet had a dentist create a custom fitting night guard for you, start saving your pennies now, my friends. Did you know that a custom night guard can cost between $300 and $700 depending upon where you live and your insurance? The tooth fairy just realized she’s in the wrong business!
Typical custom night guards will last between 5 and 10 years, depending upon the intensity of grinding.
I’m on my second custom mouth guard and it is about 8 years old. Although I give it a thorough scrubbing twice daily, along with baths in vinegar followed by hydrogen peroxide, I wondered about what might be secretly lurking on my mouth guard. I’m certainly no mathematician (ask my hubby, lol) but I had a sneaking suspicion that after 8 years, buggies might have multiplied exponentially.
After a bit of research (you know I love digging up the scoop) my concerns were confirmed. According to WebMD, “Bacteria, yeast, fungi, and viruses live on these dental devices and when used and stored as they usually are, they transmit these disease-causing organisms into the bloodstream, promoting infection, says R. Thomas Glass, DDS, PhD, professor of dentistry and pathology at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.” Hang on darlings, I need a moment to recover ~ EEEEK!
Although in the past, I tried over the counter, moldable night guards, but they never fit my mouth properly and I ended up tossing them. Besides, now that I understood the impact prolific mouth bacteria could have on health and mouth, I was in search of something different.
That’s when I stumbled upon Plackers Grind No More. Each box comes with a month’s supply of individually packaged, ready-to use, BPA-free, disposable night guards. One size fits all and there is no need to boil, mold or cut them. These guards only cover your back molars, which is where most of us do our grinding and can be worn on upper or lower teeth.
I’ve only used them for a couple of days now, but I love the fact that they are light weight, I don’t lisp when I talk and use one for three days, then toss it. Yup, I hired a bouncer and shut down that bacteria party!
A month’s supply will set you back less than $14.00.
Since my product testing is just getting started, I’ll get back to you in a month with an update.
