black and white floral jacket

The sign read “SALE” in big, bold letters and my feet came to a screeching halt. Perusing through the racks, I came upon this unusual black and white jacket complete with trending bell-sleeves. Ding, ding D I N G! Trendy, classic colors, and SOLD! I may have even been skipping as I left the store with my sale piece.

That was, until I got home. The first time I tried this jacket on with some of my favorite pieces in closet Jonet, my hubby and son, rubbed their chisled chins as they contemplated their “fashion review”.

Let’s just say Between the “um’s” and “ah’s” I realized a second attempt was in my future. So I took a quick photo of said jacket and sent it to my friend Jodie for a little fashion backup. She suggested a monochromatic, white on white look, topped with the jacket.

Jodie’s expert advice was spot on, as always. It was the jacket… it just felt like I’d borrowed someone else’s clothing for the afternoon.

Upon glancing in the mirror, all I needed was a pair of scissors in my hand, and I might pass for a hair stylist. Or an artist… to chop off an ear or not, that is the question. I’m leaning towards saving both ears because earrings come in pairs, but you could change my mind with a compelling argument.

It was the jacket. I just couldn’t make it work no matter how I styled it, it didn’t feel like me.

The bottom sale shopping line is sometimes we come home with some fabulous deals. But every now and then, you realize something just doesn’t work for you. Not to worry, Jodie really loved the jacket, so I’m sending it to her. It will be fun to see how she styles it!

Such a great jacket. I love that you tried and found it doesn’t work for you and you’re sending it to someone who’ll love it. I’m like you, I see that magical word and I stop. I’ve also bought stuff just because it was on sale — not a good idea.

Hi Daenel, I completely agree! That magic “sale” word often stops us in our tracks. I know Jodie will style it beautifully. Sending hugs, Xo Jonet

This is a lovely jacket and I know it would check off all the boxes if I saw it on a sales rack, too. It does look great with the white base, but if you aren’t feeling it, then it is far better to pass it on. Now I am looking forward to seeing how Jodie styles it. 😉

I think it’s lovely Jonet. I love it with all white ensemble but it would be equally cute with a bright colored t-shirt dress and a pair of tennies. Or over a simple sheath dress for a wedding or something. But in the end, YOU’RE the one who has to “feel” it.

    XO,
    Paula

What a lovely friend you are Jonet – I’m sure Jodie will style it out brilliantly as she always does. I have been talked into buying outfits that I knew just weren’t me several times. Once it spent a day wearing a dress that was so out of place – let’s just say it would have made more sense if I accessorised with a pale of milk and a milking stool! My daughter insisted I looked cute, and I can’t deny the dairy maid look is kinda cute – but it wasn’t what I was going for…! Thank you so much for having me as your co-host, I’ve really enjoyed the challenge xx

Thank you, Maria! You and your clever humor were a delight. Funny story, my son was my photographer for this fashion shoot and we stopped for lunch first. I changed into this outfit and my son said, “Mom, can you at least wait to wear that jacket until we get out of the restaurant”? Which is when I laughed so hard, I dribbled a little iced tea on the table. Xo Jonet

I totally get it Janet! I’ve bought more than my fair share of pieces only to realize they were non-starters. At least it’s getting a second chance at a new home, so that’s a bonus. I’m really trying to get better at not purchasing things I know won’t get a lot of wear.

Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing. I’m right there with ya, girlfriend. It’s easy to get distracted by the sale tags. I really do love the look of this jacket, it just doesn’t feel like me. Can’t wait to see what my friend Jodie from JTouchofStyle styles it. Xo Jonet
