She’s Got Style Global Fashion Series
UNITED STATES ~ AGE 52
Meet our new She’s Got Style global fashionista, the chic Valerie, who is originally from Vancouver, B.C. Canada, now living in Seattle.
Valerie is one busy lady, spending her days as a teacher and moonlighting as a fashion blogger. Since she lives in Seattle, which can receive an astounding 37 inches of rain each year, we thought we’d get the inside scoop from Valerie on how to look your best even in a downpour!
Allow me to introduce you to Valerie!
FCO50: Your Instagram page is bright, sunny and fun. How would you describe your personal style?
VALERIE: My style is classic, edgy and chic, with a little “beachy bohemian.
FCO50: Are there a few fashion pieces (jeans, blazers, etc) that you find yourself buying again and again and why?
VALERIE: I tend to buy all types of jackets, vests, bolleros etc. on repeat…they make your outfits so versatile. I keep a huge selection of shoes, they are the glue that pulls your whole outfit together, and I can never get enough pairs!
FCO50: What styles do you feel are more flatter to the 40+ woman?
VALERIE: As of late, I have not been wearing jeans much, but sticking to Jeggings. There are so many stylish ones out there that make your figure look amazing! As I get older, I find I don’t like the heavy feel of regular denim on my body. Macy’s carries an amazing line of Jeggings by “Hue” – super stylish , comfortable and they come in several colors and patterns as well.
FCO50: You live in Seattle, which is known for rainy days. Do you have any style tips for looking great in any weather?
VALERIE’S RAINY DAY FASHION AND HAIR TIPS
*Always carry travel size hair products in your handbag…hair can go south fast if the weather is windy and rainy.
*Keep a stylish tan trench coat and umbrella in your car to keep you prepared for unexpected weather conditions.
*In cold weather layer up with cute pieces- if it gets warm you can easily peal them off.
*An easy breezy slip dress.
* A chic floppy straw hat for intense heat.
FCO50: Now that you are 50+, are there any trends you won’t wear?
VALERIE: I don’t really buy into the term” Age appropriate with dress. Everyone has so many different tastes and body types. I don’t judge anyone on this. However that being said, I don’t want to appear like I am dressing like a 20 year old. Neither do I want my style to appear old and outdated.
I wear anything I want, but do not wear low cut tops and crop tops showing my belly. If you are fifty plus and have the figure for that, then go for it! I do still wear short skirts and the latest trends out for every season.
FCO50: What are your go to make up and anti aging products?
VALERIE: I use ” We got you covered” from NYX, excellent concealer, Bare Minerals moisturizer for anti aging, and try to stick to all neutral make up colors and products. Bright reds and pinks etc- in my opinion, age you.
I keep a huge selection of shoes, they are the glue that pulls your whole outfit together ~ Valerie
VALERIE IN HER OWN WORDS
I’m Valerie, originally from Vancouver, B.C. Canada. The Seattle area has been my home for many years. I’m a reading teacher by day, and a blogger by night. My love of fashion started in the early teens. I learned to sew in middle school at age 13. I still sew now, and love this creative way to express personal style. I hope to eventually design my own collection.
