Color Wow Root Cover Up Review

As empty nesters and planning for our future, my hubby and I are always in search of ways to cut a few costs as we prep for the next chapter in our lives.

At 55, for me, retirement is thankfully a ways off, but if there is one thing I’ve learned in life, the older I get, the more time passes at warp speed ~ know what I mean?

With this in mind, I decided to embarked upon a little potential money-saving beauty experiment. My question: Is it possible to extend hair color treatments without having to suffer a complete gray takeover?

To discover the answer to this important beauty question, I pushed my color treatment with my hairstylist out to 5 weeks. Yup, I’m a risk-taking rebel!

Let’s be real here, at this point in my hair’s evolution, I should beg my stylist to move next door. The good news is that there are so many new products on the market that allow us to easily and (temporarily) touch up our gray roots at home in between salon visits.

I decided to try one of the popular root cover up products by Color Wow. Using the application brush (included) with dabbing motions, I was able to temporarily (washes out with shampoo) cover my gray roots!

The Bottom Line

I found Color Wow to be effective in concealing most of my rouge gray hairs. Is it perfect, no, I noticed a few stubborn grays required an extra coat. However, the product is super easy to use and isn’t messy at all.

At a cost of under $35.00, using Color Wow or any other root touch up product can actually save you money. Now I schedule my color appointments every 6 weeks!

I am not quite ready to go gray either, Jonet! And the salon color, while it is healthier for my hair, does start to get quite expansive. If I don’t need my hair trimmed, then I color my roots at home. Which gets me by for about 12-16 weeks between salon colors! If I can manage only 4 salon visits a year, I am a happy girl. So boxed color is the way I go…but I do find that coloring my hair the blackest black is the easiest way to deal with and cover the grays.

Thanks so much for sharing your products of choice. And thanks for linking up On the Edge.

Hmm, can I say I’ve decided to loose 20 pounds, but I’m not ready to commit? That was easy.

Why not celebrate your fabulous gray hair and stop using chemicals to cover it?

Hi Ann, and thank you for asking this very important question! I completely agree with you on the chemicals in beauty product issue, especially after living in the Pacific Northwest.

I have actually decided to allow my hair to go completely and naturally grey, I’m just not quite ready to commit. It’s actually trending right now and I think it’s wonderful. Xo Jonet
