Today, we are headed to Colorful Golden Colorado, to meet our latest She’s Got Style global fashionista. Roxanne Gould has been a successful model since the age of three, landing the covers of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, to name a few!

Still modeling, Roxanne now divides her time between modeling, a self-esteem coaching business and her own all natural beauty line! Our Roxanne is one beautiful, busy lady.

FCO50: Describe your personal style.

ROXANNE: My personal style is comfortable and casual combined with being trendy yet unique. I like to follow the trends but follow in my own way by mixing up styles so it suits my body type and lifestyle. Most importantly I need to be comfortable and to be able to move freely.

When I’m modeling I really enjoy all the variety of clothing I get to wear for a short time.

But when I’m not working, I don’t like to wear anything that’s too tight and binding because it gets uncomfortable. High stiletto heels hurt so why bother? When I need a little heel, give me chunky heel so I can at least walk normally and not have to tip toe around. I like the hourglass look on me. It gives me confidence. By not hiding under loose, boxy clothing, it makes me want to keep in shape. Win/win.

FCO50: You’ve been modeling since the age of 3 and are an International Modeling Expert. Are modeling agencies searching for women over 40? If so, what tips can you give someone interested in modeling?

ROXANNE: Modeling agencies around the world are developing classic women and men’s divisions because of the times we’re living in where we appreciate the older generations and are recognizing them as relevant. I’ve had two European agents within the last month approach me asking if I wanted to be represented by them So, if some of your readers are considering a career in modeling, now is the time to give it a try. I suggest they get some training, build a portfolio, and submit pictures to the agencies they would like to work for. If not now, then when?

FCO50: You are wearing a stunning gown by the fabulous Christian Siriano (one of my favorite designers)! Allow us to live vicariously through you and explain the feeling of wearing designs from some of the biggest names in fashion.

ROXANNE: Oh, the feeling of wearing designer gowns is almost indescribable! The quality and workmanship is exquisite. The brilliant designs can be out of this world! To wear designer clothes can transport you to a dream reality where you take a deep breath and a slight smile lingers on your lips and the world is right. It’s dreamy.

It’s not an exaggeration to say this because quality is powerful. It’s uplifting and inspiring. How you move, how you react and what you say can shift just a bit towards something better and more grand, than say, if you’re wearing sweats. That’s why I tell my clients to purchase fewer pieces but of the best quality they can afford because less is more.

FCO50: What’s the best advice a photographer ever gave you about taking the perfect photo?

ROXANNE: All photographers have their own style and each job has different criteria for the model and the mood she needs to portray. It’s hard to generalize. But in answer to your question, the advice I’ve heard to most often I’d have to say is to relax. The more relaxed and the less you try to model, the better and more real the photograph will be. People relate to real expressions. Some of my favorite shots taken of me over the years as a model were when I was the most relaxed and didn’t over pose.

FCO50: What fashion advice can you give women over 40 for pulling together the perfect outfit?

ROXANNE: When in doubt wear classic pieces, for example, pants and a blouse or pencil shirt and a blouse or jeans and a tee. Throw on a leather jacket or a trench coat. Buy them in black, white or khaki colors and then add trendy colorful accessories that best match their natural coloring. The perfect outfit has to reflect their personality because when it does, women will feel true to who they are and feel natural and look beautiful.

How good it feels to be true and natural! Get inspired with all the new ways to combine clothes. What will help ladies the most to reflect their personalities is to learn what cut and color works best on them. They can’t go wrong when they know those two things by heart.

FCO50: How has your style changed now that you are over 40?

ROXANNE: Now that I’m over 40 I’m a lot more easy on myself when I dress than when I was younger. Here’s how dressing in the morning goes: Is it comfortable? Check! Is it going to keep my body temperature just right? Check! Does it give me a good silhouette? Check! Are the colors of the outfit uplifting? Check! Those four questions, if answered ‘yes’ will keep my spirit feeling good all day. That’s what I want.

When I was younger my questions were more: Will I look good? Am I hip enough? Can I impress others? Will I be accepted? My concerns to my style when I was younger were more outward based and out of my control. As I get older, I’m more true to myself and look inward for answers—even for dressing!

FCO50: What age disguising makeup tips can you share?

ROXANNE: Blush, ladies! Wear a coral or light pink blush to bring a youthful vibrance to your face. Wear less eye shadows and eye liners but keep the mascara! Use a light, sheer, moist lipstick or gloss to help the lips look fuller and plump. If you find the right foundation, wear it, otherwise don’t bother because it can age you. Glowing skin from a good moisturizer can look much better than wearing the wrong foundation.

FCO50: You’ve created your own natural, organic beauty line and your skin looks amazing! What product do you offer and which is your favorite?

ROXANNE: I created my vegan, gluten-free, natural and organic line of makeup because I believe what you put on your body is as important as what you put in your body. The line came about a few years back when I had an allergic reaction from a chemical found in cosmetics, skin care and household products.

It’s a common ingredient, but one day my body couldn’t fight it any longer and the skin on my face and neck —-I don’t want to go into it, but it was bad. If I can help other women from having that happen to them, it would make me happy. My makeup line is healthy and nourishing for the skin and body. It includes lipstick, lipgloss, BB Cream, foundation, tint stick, eye shadow and mascara.

As a model, I have worked with some of the best makeup artists in the business, and learned a lot from them. I put together a basic makeup line with colors which work for all skin tones and hair colors. It’s also a great line for women who have very sensitive skin and/or ethically want only vegan products.

Roxanne’s Beauty Tip: Blush, ladies! Wear a coral or light pink blush to bring a youthful vibrance to your face.
