Styling and Shopping Tips for Every Woman
Our She’s Got Style global fashion series has “traveled” all the way to beautiful Boston, to meet the expertly dressed Jeanne. Jeanne, a former teacher, has brought her gift for education to her own highly successful Fashion Stylist company.
Jeanne has a passion for fashion and for making her clients look and feel their best. We love her fabulous style and philosophy that the right clothes can give a woman self confidence.
FCO50: We noticed you wear a lot of fabulous flats. What’s the secret to finding gorgeous, comfortable shoes?
JEANNE: I am a shoe lover (especially pointy toes) and look at shoes as the perfect style statement. I shop high and low and love a mix. My favorite “go to” store for up to the minute trends is Zara. Living in the city and walking everywhere, I often go up a 1/2 size for comfort.
FCO50: What’s the best styling advice you can give a woman who wants to update her wardrobe?
JEANNE: My advice would be to do your own thing and not be a slave to trends. You should first shop basics…you need a uniform (tees, tanks, white blouse, blazer, denim, etc.) in order to wear the other current trends. Trends can be colors, accessories, individual pieces. Buy things you like, but don’t spend a lot of money on them as they won’t last long. There are plenty of stores (HM, Zara, Primark, Target, etc.) that offer fun looks on a shoestring.
FCO50: Is there a secret to a successful fashion/accessory shopping trip?
JEANNE: Always start with a plan and a shopping list and you won’t waste time. I shop for clients and allow an hour and a half to scope stores for color and looks and pull pieces before I meet up with them. My advice is to spend more money on great accessories and classic pieces that you will have forever. I still have my first post college purchase…a beautiful scarf from Saks.
FCO50: As a Fashion Stylist, are there any fashion Do’s and Dont’s for the woman over 40?
JEANNE: Anyone over 40 still wants to look cool, stylish and up to date. However, you don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard or competing with your daughter! There are plenty of great current looks that can be worn, regardless of age…stick to them. Style is all about attitude. If you feel well, you will look well. No need to look foolish or frumpy. Pick the trends that work for you. Best advice: wear clothes that fit like a glove…much more flattering!!! I often put clients down a size or two and it takes ten years off their appearance.
FCO50: You look amazing. What beauty products are at the top of your favorites list?
JEANNE: My favorite beauty products are Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage and Tizo Age Defying Sunscreen (from dermatologist) and a trusty hat in the sun. For moisturizer I have used and been happy with Olay products, but am currently trying out Rodan + Fields Redefine @meaghanhallidaymullen.
Style is all about attitude. If you feel well, you will look well. Jeanne
