Charleston Place is one of those rare gems that sparkles with luxurious accommodations, impeccable service and southern hospitality. Ranked as one of the top hotels in North America by Condé Nast Traveler, as well as guests from around the world, this is one truly extraordinary hotel and one of our very favorites.

Each year, this glamorous yet warm and friendly hotel, transforms it’s dazzling lobby into a mesmerizing holiday wonderland that guests find hard to forget or resist (and I speak from personal experience).

Around Thanksgiving time, the hotel elves sneak into the hotel (it’s actually the Nappi family) to set up a fully operational replica of the Orient Express Train (along with two other trains), complete with miniature ski lift and snowy European landscape.  The Nappi family has had this honor for over a decade and a half, with many generations joining in the intricate assembly process.

The Nappi’s add a new feature to the train display each year, sprinkling more Christmas magic and nostalgic charm over this miniature city, to the delight of returning guests and new alike.

Featuring three realistic trains, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a local freighter, as well as a cog train, each traveling on different routes through the countryside and a trolley moving folks through town. A new underground subway will debut this year. The train is usually available for viewing the day after Thanksgiving.

Our family is living proof of the magical Christmas spirit that stays with guests years after a holiday season stay. We stayed at Charleston Place when our kids were 13 and 10 years old. We almost needed to call security (I kid) to help us pull the kids away from the whistling trains going around the track. My “kids” are now 29 and 25 and still reminisce about one of their favorite holiday experiences at Charleston Place.

Don’t feel like spending hours in the kitchen making a big holiday meal?  Charleston Place has you covered and they just announced two classic holiday packages!

The Holiday Traditions package is designed for families or groups of friends and combines two nights’ accommodation in some of the most elegant rooms in the hotel and an exclusive private dining experience.  Step out of the kitchen and back in time with a private holiday meal prepared by their award-winning chefs and served by a butler in suite, plus tickets to tour two historic homes. Starting at $933 per night.

For those traveling as a duo, The Classic Holiday B&B package is ideal and includes two nights’ deluxe accommodation, breakfast for two, two tickets to the Aiken-Rhett Museum (circa 1820) and to the Nathaniel Russell House (circa 1808), a wassail cocktail and appetizers at the Thoroughbred Club. Package rates from $359 per night.

The hotel’s two award-winning on-property restaurants will feature two additional dining options for holiday guests:

The Palmetto Cafe will offer a traditional southern-style holiday buffet lunch and the Charleston Grill will host a sit down dinner. Reservations very much encouraged.

The bottom line is you can’t go wrong whether you choose a holiday package or to allow one of Charleston Place’s outstanding restaurants to do the cooking for you this year. And the best part? They won’t ask you to do the dishes ~ pinky swear!
