PETRA VAN BREMEN ~ GERMANY
AGE ~ 57
We’re pretty sure, “Elegance” is Petra’s middle name!
And this is how a fashion model ROCKS a cool pair of Dior shades (sunnies)!
Layers of stylishness, Petra sets the bar high for fall/winter fashion in Germany!
“Mixing and matching accessories is an important part of finishing my look.” Petra
It’s not all heels and glam for Petra, who shows off her sporty side too!
Since it’s officially fall and Germans everywhere are celebrating Oktoberfest, it’s undoubtedly the perfect time to pay a visit to one of our She’s Got Style fashionistas, the stunning fashion model, Petra Van Bremen. Petra, who is Dutch, currently calls Germany home sweet home.
The dazzling 5′ 9″ (or 1.77 m) Petra, a fashion model since the age of 17, can be spotted strutting the catwalks across Europe, dripping in famous fashion designer apparel! Let’s walk a mile in Petra’s Louis Vuittons, shall we, darlings?
This gorgeous 57 year old (we wouldn’t have believed her if she hadn’t put it in writing) has a talent for selecting head-to-toe looks that could be featured on the cover of any fashion magazine. Petra loves to mix it up, a little bit sporty, a spoonful of pure elegance, topped off with fabulous accessories, which she tells us, finishes her looks.
Petra, a natural blonde, is embracing being over fifty and allowing her hair to go beautifully grey and we think she looks sensational. But there’s more to Petra’s life than fashion and glamour and her true beauty lies in the kindness of her heart.
Van Bremen is a humanitarian and has worked tirelessly on behalf of Ronald McDonald House, a warm and welcoming place to call temporary home for the families of injured or ill children. She was recently named Patron for the Hamburg Ronald McDonald House. This quote seems quite fitting for this German fashionista, “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” Mark Twain.
Do not make the mistake of wearing only flats because you are tall.
FCO50: Describe your personal style.
PETRA: My personal style can be best described as elegant, sporty chic, appropriate to my age. I love to mix and match and accessories are very important to finishing my look.
FCO50: What’s the one fashion item you wear the most? Maybe a certain pair of pants or shoes.
PETRA: My Dior silver mirrored sunglasses!
FCO50: You’ve allowed your hair to go beautifully, naturally grey. Has embracing being over 50 had an impact on your modeling career?
PETRA: It is a little bit early to answer your question with a definite yes. I let my hair grow out starting last year and at the back and the sides it still has a lot of blond, so I am still not completely grey. At the front, when I pull back my hair, I am completely white. However, in two situations they booked me this year for my grey hair. One was for a photoshoot for a cruise line and the second photoshoot was for a calendar, being dressed up like Iris Apfel. Both jobs were totally different but equally fun to do. The pictures are on my website but you cannot use them in the interview because of the copyright.
I think in the future it will widen my job opportunities. In comparison to the USA and England, natural grey hair topics are still at the beginning of acceptance in Germany and The Netherlands. That is why I started TheGreyBlog, to create more acceptance.
FCO50: Can you share a few fashion tips for tall woman?
PETRA: Do not make the mistake of wearing only flats because you are tall. Even if your are tall, high heels are a must, it gives your body a different elegant movement. It makes you more feminine. The heels do not need to be extremely high but comfortable enough for you to feel self conscious of your appearance.
I also try to wear different layers of clothing in different lengths and/or colours so in my case, it does not make me too skinny. I love wearing scarfs which hang loosely in the front or over-knee boots because we have the leg length. If I wear a one piece dress, I always wear long necklaces which “breaks” the length. Therefore, it’s good to invest in beautiful accessories. And last but not least, belts and bags. They will always be fashionable and being tall we can differ sizes and models to complete an outfit.
I strongly believe in my natural self and embrace growing older. ~ Petra Van Bremen
PETRA VAN BREMEN IN HER OWN WORDS
At the age of 17, I began my modeling career on the catwalks for famous designers at fashion shows in Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. As time passed and I grew older, continuing a modelling career in those days was not a realistic option. So at the age of 24, I stopped modelling and trained for a career as a Human Resource Manager and worked as a Regional Manager at temporary employment agencies.
At the age of 46, I moved to Hamburg, Germany to live with the love of my life. I had given up my career in the Netherlands and my thoughts frequently turned to becoming a model again. My husband encouraged me to fulfil my dream and so one day I decided to register with a former modelling agency.
I established myself as a Classic Model / Best Ager Model. I have worked for magazines and for advertisers such as Otto, Basler Fashion, Malaysian Airlines, Calgon and Schwarzkopf. On a regular basis you can find me once again on the catwalk and I am also a regular guest on talk shows in Germany and the Netherlands.
I strongly believe in my natural self and embrace growing older. I am looking forward to many new experiences and adventures, challenging boundaries on the way.
Thank you, dear Petra, for inviting us to stop by for a visit. Your classic style and great fashion tips are fabulous and we applaud your efforts to infuse your love and kindness into the lives of families in need.
