Today we are visiting the beautiful Mile High state of Colorado, to get styling inspiration from a fashionista who not only shares insightful tips for her age group (over 50), she has brilliantly partnered with her mom and step-mother to represent three fabulous decades of styling tips and tricks for every mature woman.
Here’s our interview with Jodie from J Touch of style:
FCO50: We love that your photos have a little something for three decades of women. Can you give us style advice for the woman in her 50’s/60’s/70’s?
JODIE: After blogging with my mom (the 70+ model) and my stepmom (the 60+ model) for almost 3 years now, I have found that the best advice for any aged woman is to be open to new styles and combinations. I always tell the story that I thought I knew what the “right” style was when I started blogging. But the more that you try out new things, the more you realize that clothing and style can be fun and not so rule-based.
Every woman I have ever met has some sort of fabulousness about her, and yet I don’t think we always convey that in our outward appearance. Taking the time to enjoy our clothing and make it showcase our insides, has been an “aha” moment for me.
Of course, there is one itsy bitsy fact that makes all of our clothing look incredible, and that is the correct fit. Since my mother is a seamstress, I have learned the importance of altering clothes so that they really and truly fit the best way possible.
So no matter what your age, having fun with our style and going that extra step to have it fit perfectly will make your clothing as wonderful as you are!
FCO50: What pieces are ageless and should be a staple for any mature woman?
JODIE: I think there are many classic and ageless pieces of clothing, and much of it depends upon your activities. But the two things that come to mind are a pair of blue jeans and a white shirt. These two basics can be incredibly versatile whether worn together or separately. And considering that I’m an accessory junkie, they can also be paired with any kind of shoes and jewelry to make any outfit really stand out.
FCO50: What are the most comfy + stylish shoes you’ve discovered?
JODIE: I confess that I am a shoeaholic. For some reason, I think a fabulous pair of shoes can be the best part of an outfit. And I am also extremely lucky that I don’t have many issues for with my feet.
But once I started talking to my fellow over 40 women friends, I found out that some women do have limited choices with their shoes because of their feet. Which put me on a mission to find stylish yet comfortable shoes for every woman out there.
Shoe Tip #1: Switch out your shoes in the middle of the day. Having a variety of shoes for your feet has been such a surprising help for most women.
Shoe Tip #2: Stretch and work your feet at the end of the day. My pilates instructor used to have us spread our toes and try to “play the piano” with them. This exercise and others can make wearing your shoes feel so much better.
FCO50: What are your go to make up and anti aging products?
JODIE: My go to make up and beauty products change almost monthly. I’m a firm believer that variety is the spice of life, and I want to try out new and different products all of the time. I like to “feed” my skin different ingredients.
Right now I am using some drugstore brand moisturizer, and a cleanser from my Aesthetician. I also love my Limelight by Alcone Mascara.
I blog to inspire style for women of many ages, sizes and budgets. Just because your driver’s license says a certain number does not mean that you can’t continue looking fabulous! In the same thinking, your beauty is not dependent on being a specific size.
