healthy shiny hair

We’ve all heard it before; menopause ain’t for sissies. True enough, but did you know it can also affect the health and shine level of our hair too? I know, I know, time for a group hug.

Color treating our hair is another culprit, robbing our tresses of precious moisture, which can lead to breakage, split ends and dull color.

According to the experts at WebMD, “Highlights and semi-permanent dyes aren’t as damaging as bleach, but they aren’t without consequences, Mirmirani says. They can also change the inner structure of the hair, causing a lackluster look and dryness, especially if you frequently color to hide roots or gray hair.”

Now, let’s toss in the affects menopause can wreak on our locks and we’ve got some rescuing and restoring to do.

Here’s what Everyday Health has to say about the menopause/hair connection, “Falling estrogen levels can also affect the health of your skin and hair. According to the North American Menopause Society, collagen loss begins early but is most rapid in the first few years of menopause, leading to dry, flaky skin and lackluster locks.”

At our tender age, unless you’ve decided to go naturally grey, we are all investing precious time and money covering up those annoying grey hairs. Which makes deep conditioning hair weekly, something we should all add to our calendars pronto.

Worry not, my pretties, we’ll show you How To Get A Salon Quality Deep Hair Conditioning Treatment At Home. It’s easy, we promise; the most difficult part will be carving out some “me” time.

    Hi Jonet!
I enjoyed reading this! I use similar products as I know my hair can be challenging some days. I have noticed a change in texture due to low estrogen levels.

Thanks for your comment, Jess. I’m experiencing the same dryness due to those falling estrogen levels. Until I research it for this post, I had no idea it could contribute to my hair problems. Xo Jonet
