She’s Got Style
SOUTH AFRICA & AUSTRALIA ~ AGE 51
I hope you packed snacks for this installment of She’s Got Style because we will be cyber traveling to not one but two countries today!
Meet the stylish, professional photographer, Natasha Dupreez, who was born and raised in South Africa. Natasha and her family moved to Australia eight years ago, and she is in the process of starting up her photography business once again, this time with a focus on the over 40 woman.
FCO50: Describe your personal style.
NATASHA: I am drawn to classic, chic, elegant, casual, trendy and sometimes a touch of bohemian styles and so I would have to say that these most probably also describe my own style perfectly. Comfort is key though! If it pulls, squeezes pinch or does anything other than being comfortable then I won’t wear it.
I’m not the biggest dress lover. I do have a couple for summer, but always seem to feel more comfy in jeans and stylish shorts. I’m also not a huge lover of stilettos … can’t walk in them and am to scared I’ll break a leg, so I’ll opt for anything with wedges or beautiful flats. In winter I looove boots … long ones, short ones, ones with wedge heels and definitely my Hunter boots.
FCO50: You have showcased so many of this season’s spring/summer hottest trends. What’s your tip to keeping your looks updated?
NATASHA: I love browsing through Instagram & Pinterest to see what is new and trendy. I do love trends, but mostly will change it to fit me, my style and personality. I like buying one or two trendy pieces, but I won’t buy anything that does not shout “me” even though it’s the newest must have-piece. If I know I won’t wear it the next year then I would rather leave it and purchase something classic with a touch of trendiness.
When I go shopping, I normally know exactly what I’m looking for. I go shopping with a plan … that way I know I won’t buy just for the sake of having something new. Shops are filled with new ‘have to have” pieces and so it can be difficult to look past that and only focus on what you really want and need. Although “need” is very dangerous word, because we always need the newest fashions 😉
But all jokes aside, it is the best idea to go and shop with a definite item and plan in mind. I also find that it is also very important to know the contents of my wardrobe. If I go shopping for something new, I normally know the different options I would have within my own wardrobe to pair with the new piece. So definitely have a plan, don’t buy just because it’s trendy and make sure it suits you and your style.
FCO50: We love the jackets you wear and how they elevate your outfits. Is there a trick to pairing the perfect jacket with your look?
NATASHA: Although I have a couple of vibrant coloured jackets, I tend to keep my jackets in basic toned-down colours. I mostly have classic jackets and some of them I’ve bought over fifteen years ago if not longer. They are the type of jackets that never go out of style or fashion. You can pair them with most outfits and fashion trends and it will always add a touch of style and class to your look.
My biggest jacket love is the cape jacket. This is such a versatile jacket since it can be dressed up or down and it can be worn on cooler summer nights and colder winter days. I love pairing these jackets with jeans and a t-shirt or shirt. It always adds a touch of style to a very casual look.
FCO50: It’s date night. What are you wearing?
NATASHA: Date nights for us is normally a very casual outing to one of our favourite spots at one of the harbours next to the ocean. We enjoy the scenic drive there and back and we love having a drink and some snacks watching the sun set over the ocean. So mostly my outfits for such an outing will be smart casual.
FCO50: What is the one anti-aging product that you can’t live without?
NATASHA: Last year I discovered rose hip oil and honestly I can see the difference. I can’t see myself ever getting Botox or fillers, and so I started reading up on creams and facial products to see what will help with softening wrinkles. I’ve been using rose hip oil under all my creams and I love it. My skin feels super soft and the appearance of wrinkles are definitely softer on the eye.
I like buying one or two trendy pieces, but I won’t buy anything that does not shout “me” even though it’s the newest must have-piece. Natasha
I am Natasha, a born and bread South African girl living now living in Perth Australia. I am the mother of two fantastic adult children and wife to the best husband ever. We will be married thirty years this December. I started out as a teacher, then became a mom (best job in the world).
I have been a professional photographer for over twenty-five years and had my own very successful photography business in South Africa. I started off in the film days!
Since our move to Australia, I have not gotten back into full time photography. I needed the break and decided to get my creative juices flowing by styling and planning different themed styled photo sessions. I really love this type of photography. I am planning on getting back into photography as a business within the next couple of months. I want to focus on photographing couples and women over forty. I find that most older couples and women over forty forget the importance of having beautiful portraiture.
Last year I decided to showcase my fashion taste and style on Instagram. I find Instablogging super fun. I’m a picture person and so Instagram definitely suits my taste. It’s easy for your followers to see what you are wearing in an instant.
