Remember back in the day when our kiddos were wee ones and we slathered them in that thick, white sunscreen like we were frosting a cake? Protecting their tender young skin from the harmful rays of the sun was a top priority for us then, but how often do we skip this crucial step for ourselves?
While I celebrate every single day of life over 50, I’m also prepared to don my suit of armor and do battle with the wrinkles that have my name written upon them. Sadle my horse, Tristan, we’re declaring war!
But there is an easy way to help prevent premature aging, and the answer is to treat our own skin with the same tender love and preventative sun care we gave our beloved children.
In an article from SkinCancer.org, they share a study published in the American College of Physicians’ Annals of Internal Medicine, which is “the first research in humans to show conclusively that sunscreen can help prevent photoaging ~ premature aging caused by the sun.” This is powerful anti-aging information, don’t you think?
rays from the sun cause more than 90 percent of the visible signs of aging
The article goes on to say that “Daily use of a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher can help reduce aging of the skin caused by sun damage. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun cause more than 90 percent of the visible signs of aging, which include wrinkles, rough patches, sagging, and skin discoloration.” And I’m sold.
Here’s the great news about sunscreens ~ they’ve come a long way since the days of the thick, gooey creams of yesteryear. Sunscreens have moved into the beauty department, with a wide range of brands and options. Now we can choose from traditional sunscreens, tinted moisturizers with SPF factors, serums and BB creams.
We’ve researched and put together our Editor’s Pick of the Best Anti Aging Sunscreens featuring both drugstore and popular beauty brands. All of these sun protection choices are above the recommended SPF 15 or higher, so which one you choose, is entirely up to you.
